About the Artist
Born in 1986
Based in LOS ANGELES
Negar Zonoobi (b. 1986, Sari, Iran) is a Los Angeles–based artist whose practice explores the convergence of abstraction and naturalism through painting and drawing. Engaging with organic structures—particularly botanical forms that echo the human body—Zonoobi constructs layered compositions that suggest transformation, ambiguity, and emergence.
Zonoobi’s works often deconstruct and reconstruct natural imagery, creating amorphous surfaces where solid and soft elements coexist. Through nuanced fields of color, shifting transparencies, and rhythmic linework, the compositions unfold as hybrid entities—part organism, part architecture—reflecting a persistent inquiry into material, memory, and form.
With a background in mathematics and a B.A. in Painting from the Science and Culture University in Tehran, Zonoobi maintains a formal sensitivity anchored in structure and balance. Recent series such as Trim emphasize drawing as a primary gesture, revealing the tension between fragility and force within each mark.
Zonoobi’s work has been exhibited internationally, including solo and group exhibitions across Tehran, New York, London, and Lugano.
